When I was a boy, I grew up listening to my dad tell me stories of going to the mill with my grandpa. That got me interested in grist mills and milling. When I was 14, my grandpa gave me his 1920 Meadows Mill. It was in need or repair. I had lumber sawed for it and I totally restocked it and did everything necessary to make it operable with no help from anyone except encouragement from my dad. I finished it when I was 15 and it was grinding corn.
I ground some for my neighbor and for my family. After that milling was always of great interest to me.
Mills Are My Passion
In 2013, I was commissioned and started working on Barkley Mill. It's an overshot water mill that I designed and built from the ground up in the Big Ivy section of Buncombe County, N.C.
After that, I was commissioned to restore a 24” Meadows Mill for The historic Hagood Mill in Pickens, S.C.
I have restored Mills that have gone to SC, IN, KY, TN, and here in NC.
I restored an 1850 Straub Queen of the South Mill that is on display and demonstration at the restaurant Miller's All Day in Charleston, SC.
I can do anything from dressing millstones to the craftsman style finish.
